  • Backward Compatibility - Able to work with input that has been generated by an older device.

  • Content - The textual, visual, or audio information that a visitor encounters on a website.

  • Content Management - A set of processes and technologies that support the evolutionary lifecycle of digital information, also known as content.

  • Content Management System (CMS) - Software used to enter content, edit content, import files and images, export files and images, and schedule and publish websites and other information.

  • Content Reuse - A situation where a single piece of content is written one time and then re-used in multiple locations.

  • Content Types - A set of fields that divides large chunks of content into more manageable parts, such as “Web Page,” “News Article,” and “Upcoming Event.”

  • Domains - Names used to identify and locate a server or resource on the Internet. Domain names are registered with a domain registrar and assigned one or more IP addresses, which computers use to communicate with each other.

  • Domain Name System (DNS) - A system that translates Internet domain and host names into IP addresses.

  • Extranet - A website that is secured or password-protected and designed exclusively for employees, partners, or customers to conduct company business.

  • FTP or File Transfer Protocol - Technology that allows you to transfer data from one computer to another over the Internet.

  • Firewall - An information technology security device used to protect your network. It can be either hardware- or software- based.

  • Intranet - A private, in-house website that serves the employees of an organization.

  • Network - Multiple computers connected together using a telecommunication system for the purpose of communicating and sharing resources.

  • Operating System (OS) - A set of computer programs that manages the hardware and software resources of a computer.

  • Uniform Resource Locator (URL) - Also referred to as a link or web address, a URL is a string of text used to locate a specific web page or other resource on the Internet. For instance, our website home page URL is http://www.comandsolutions.com.

  • Virtualization - A method of partitioning one physical server computer into multiple “virtual” servers, giving each the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each virtual server functions as a full-fledged server and can be independently rebooted.

  • Virtual Private Server (VPS) - The virtual independent servers resulting from the partitioning or virtualization described above.
